Greetings,
After participating in the Urban Challenge in Portland, Oregon I couldn't
help myself but look for the "perfect" locations on our
recent visits to both Boston and New York. We (Rick and I) wore our
Urban Challenge hats in both cities and promoted the heck out of you!!!
Makes me wish we could do it again, once is truly not enough! Keep
the awesome pace up gang.
Fondly, Cheri J. |
| My teammate and I had the best racing experience
of our lives and we have run races all around the US. We cannot wait
to think on the run again. We are also happy because the 2nd place
team are good friends of ours so we will be rooting for them in the
championship. Good luck in your future races. |
THANK YOU so much for coming to Portland!!!!
Even though I can barely move right now, we had an absolute blast!
What a great idea. I think you truly are the Guru of Fun! It was way
more physically challenging than I anticipated (my fault, I'm not
a runner!) and my cocky attitude about my knowledge of Portland has
been completely shot down (which is a good thing!). Awesome, just
awesome. We look forward to seeing you next year, when we win it!!! |
| My husband and brother ran in the Portland challenge
this weekend, and my sister-in-law and I were cell phone help at home
with the computer (and the kids). They had an absolutely great time,
but I have to say that was the most stressful three hours I have ever
experienced. They would call with a part of the checkpoint question
and give me this 30 second sound byte as they ran. They were hard
clues so I felt terrible when they would call back in a few minutes
and I would have nothing to help them. But what a hoot, really they
had a great time racing, and the stories they had to tell, what a
riot!! The pictures are great. My husband made a collage with the
pictures, clues, race number and map of where they went, it looks
so good. |

FINE OVERCAST WEATHER and a fine transit system made Urban Challenge
Portland a pleasant affair.
Winners:
After many close-but-no-cigar losses in other cities, we finally
got an all-woman team in the coveted first-place spot. The Portland
women put five all-female teams into the top 10 and dominated the
winner's circle by claiming the top three places.
1st placers Nancy Nugent and Amy Drews did it all right
and came in with time to spare. The next team across was an all-male
team, but alas, they blew a checkpoint. Complete
list of winners »

Checkpoints:
In a city with an amazing public art program, we had a great time
finding interesting checkpoints. Check
out the checkpoints »
Best
Costume:
Hands down it was the bride and bridesmaid, Dawna and Ruby. Gettin'
hitched for these two means hitchin' up the dresses and runnin'!
Congrats and enjoy your fuel belt.
Trivia Challenge:
Did you know how to calculate the volume of a sphere? Why would
you! Test yourself
with the Portland Trivia Challenge »
Thanks:
Our thanks to BridgePort Brewing Company (and both Rebeccas)
for making our race go so smoothly. Some fine beers after the race
sure helped. Once again the folks from Red Bull showed up and got
our fatigued challengers back on their feet with their mysterious
elixir.
