Rain clouds cooled the city, but didn't rain, as Urban Challenge
landed in our nation's capital.
Winners:
William Healy and Scott Smallwood came across the line just past
3 hours to nab a free plane ride to Vegas. Four minutes later, Guy
F Johnson and Chris Mackie came in for second place after circling
the finish line more than once looking for the last checkpoint.
So close! Gerald Schwinn, self-described "oldest guy on the
course" and his partner Rachel Posell were third. Complete
list of winners »
Checkpoints:
Our DC course started in Georgetown and took participants to the

Local
Press: The Washington Post ran two articles featuring Urban
Challenge in 2002:
Denise Stascavage and Steve Newman rose early Saturday
morning and filled a backpack with these items: trail mix, cell
phone, two maps, plenty of water, disposable camera, a printout
of Party Animal (elephant and donkey) statue locations throughout
the District, and a City Paper. "In case we want to answer some
personals," says Newman. more»
Thanks:
